The Association for Operations Management (APICS) builds operations management excellence in individuals and enterprises through superior training, internationally recognized certifications, comprehensive resources, and a worldwide network of accomplished industry professionals.
I have been maintained my Certification in Production and Inventory Management CPIM since June of 2000. I felt that this certification added quite a bit of depth to my Supply Chain Managment degrees. It went into more of the details while my MBA focused more on practical applications from a higher organizational level. My CPIM training definately enhanced my understanding of supply chains.
In order to be certified back in 2000, I needed to take 5 of 7 exams. Today the topics are consolidated into 5 total modules:
Basics of Supply Chain Management
Master Planning of Resources
Detailed Scheduling and Planning
Execution and Control of Operations
Strategic Management of Resources
Since 1973, the CPIM program has educated more than 75,000 manufacturing professionals on essential terminology, concepts, and strategies related to demand management, procurement and supplier planning, material requirements planning, capacity requirements planning, sales and operations planning, master scheduling, performance measurements, supplier relationships, quality control, and continuous improvement.
