In August 2006 I started training to hike the Grand Canyon from Rim to Rim to Rim (R2R2R) which is a total of 45 strenuous miles.

On Sunday, September 10th I made the trek (and took a video every few hours on the trail). I left the South Rim of the canyon at around 3 o'clock in the morning with a headlamp and the light of the moon to help guide me down the Bright Angel Trail. Carefully navigating the trail down, and spooking some wildlife along the way, I made it over the Colorado River. Next, I headed to the North Rim of the canyon, turned around, and did it all over again. I ended up back at the South rim at 11:00 PM Sunday night. What a hike!!! Here is a great website where others describe the hike: http://www.runningplaces.com/route/index.php?route_id=270

Although I was scheduled to train for 2 months, I trained for ~ one month. I was at the Grand Canyon doing a quick down and up to see how it felt and I decided to run the whole thing. I found a highly-qualified coach who has set up a training program for me. Take a look at it below and if you're interested in a similar program, contact Coach Dean at http://www.rxrunning.com/
